Round-up of News for 07/06/2011

There are some interesting happenings in the numismatic world right now. For people in and near Florida, the annual Summer Fun show is taking place in Orlando this week. It’s being held at the Orange County Convention Center and admission is free. Now on to the news.

First up is the upcoming trial on the 1933 Double Eagle. At issue is the ownership of the 10 coins, the Langbord family or the U.S. Government. Some good information and background on the story can be found here and here.

A new double die has been discovered and confirmed this week. Found by Florida collector Christopher Beck, the doubling is described as “Major” and if you go here you can see some pictures and judge for yourself.

Over at Numismatic News there is an interesting article about cleaning coins. At issue is whether a conserved coin should be worth more or less than a tarnished one. You can find the article here.
